<p>Eric Vermillion, associate vice chancellor of finance, has been promoted to vice chancellor of finance, in recognition of his increased scope of responsibilities during the last three years and 32-year commitment to UCSF.</p>
<p>Jason Tien, a doctoral candidate in neuroscience at UCSF, and Alberto Ortega Hinojosa, a doctoral candidate in public health at UC Berkeley, were honored for helping develop a student health insurance plan that is both comprehensive and affordable. </p>
Targeting a protein that leukemia cells use to stay alive may be the key to fighting drug-resistant leukemia, a discovery that may make cancer drugs more powerful and help doctors formulate drug cocktails to cure more children of leukemia, a team led by UCSF researchers reports.
<p>UCSF's inter-school research day is "part of the growing recognition of the importance of interprofessional team learning and research which is key to the translational medicine of the future,” according to Joel Palefsky, who is credited with organizing the event showcasing research from fellows, residents and students from all four professional schools. </p>
